Chad Simpson Sweeps WDRL Races at Freeport Raceway and Takes Over Point Lead! Written By: Walters Web Design (St. Louis, MO - September 8th, 2008) -- This past weekend Chad Simpson Racing headed to Freeport Raceway in Freeport, IL for the double feature WDRL event. Chad went into the event holding the number two spot in WDRL point standings. If he wanted to hold the top spot he needed a solid run, the team didn't really know what to expect as the last WDRL event at Freeport the team brought home an 8th place run. They would find out just what kind of car they had shortly after unloading it for qualifying. Chad Simpson unloaded with a very fast race car as he was able to grab the top spot in the 3rd qualifier. This put him in the pole dash as well. Chad took his GATR Volvo/Liebe Trucking No. 25 to the top spot in no time and would grab the pole dash victory giving him the pole for the start of the 25 lap feature event. The plan was to run the 25 lap feature on Friday Night but the track was just too rough so it was pushed back to the following night along with the 75 lap feature. When the green flag dropped on the show Chad held on to the lead and with just about no pressure from behind, he would go on to grab the first feature of the action packed Saturday Night. "Once I got out front, I knew I had a great car," Simpson, of Mount Vernon, Iowa, said in victory lane after the first win. "I was able to hold a great line. I'm looking forward to the 75-lap feature." In qualifying for the 75 lap feature Chad would slip back a bit finding himself 3rd in qualifier number two. Next up, the pole dash and while Chad was not able to take the victory he did gain a few positions to finish 4th and take outside 2nd row for the start of the 75 lap feature event. It looked as if Chad had lost his dominate edge from the previous feature just a bit but when they started the feature event Chad painted a whole different picture. Jeff Aikey who started on the pole would hold the lead for 65 complete laps. However, Aikey was dealt some very tough lapped traffic with just 10 laps remaining that allowed Simpson to close on the leader and finally work his way to the point and lead the remaining laps to take his 2nd victory of the weekend and a $10,000 total for his weekend efforts. "I tried to save my tires for the end," Simpson said again in victory lane. "I thought Aikey was driving into the corners too hard, so I thought I'd better save mine.
"Lapped traffic -- sometimes you love it and sometimes you hate," added Simpson. "Tonight I love it. The Liebe Trucking/GATR Volvo/Five Star No. 25 felt great all night."
After the weekend events the 2005 Yankee Dirt Track Champion found himself leading the WDRL points. Now, the team has another challenge just around the corner.
